The apartment, located in an early-20th-century building in the heart of Rome's Monteverde district, is defined by a sculptural functional volume that acts as a filter, staircase and storage element.
Making the most of the skylight, a vertical connection to the terrace was created through a custom-designed wireframe staircase which, beyond its function, converses with the living room and kitchen, filtering the two spaces through a glazed sliding door.
The whole home is built with a simplicity that thrives on contrasts, unafraid of layering styles.
You can appreciate both a classic mood, given by the wooden door and window trims and the use of cobalt blue on the living area walls, and an industrial flavour through materials such as resin, iron and the exposed brick typical of the neighbourhood's homes, alongside the use of classic cement tiles with an arabesque motif.
The chromatic opposites also create new and interesting balances, such as the one between the hand-planed walnut parquet, which creates a lived-in effect full of warmth, and the coolness of the blue walls, and the one between natural iron and exposed brick. Material transitions are always marked by formal or functional divisions.
The project is completed by Vitra design furniture, the Finn Juhl sofa from Lak00labdanish and industrial elements from Showroom Oh My Lab.
